Yulia will be the second woman PM of Swaridenko Ukraine, before her, Eulia Timoshnco took over as PM.
Yulia Swiridenko has now become the new Prime Minister of Ukraine. His name was recommended by President Volodimir Jailonsky. The Ukrainian Parliament then selected him as Prime Minister.
Yulia was the first Deputy PM and Minister of Economy. He is 39 years old and is an economist by profession. He has replaced Dennis Shamihal, who holds PM post since 2020.
As a deputy PM, Swiridenko played an important role in conducting a mineral deal with US President Trump this year, after which he was highly praised.
There have also been some more changes in the new cabinet. Shimihal will still remain in the cabinet but will not be the Defense Minister. Rustom Umrov will already continue to be the Defense Minister in his place. Earlier, Jailonsky had talked about making Shamihal a Defense Minister.
Jailonsky dissolved Parliament yesterday
The President Jailonsky dissolved the old cabinet on July 16, a day earlier. He then gave a list of his chosen people for the new government to Parliament.
Jailonsky’s party ‘Servant of the People’ is in an absolute majority with 254 seats since 2019. Yulia got the support of 262 MPs while 22 voted against her. At the same time, 26 MPs did not vote.
Speaking in Parliament, Jailonski thanked the old Prime Minister Shamihal and said that a new strategy is now needed to en long as new agreements with countries like America. He said that the government should review all old defense agreements and create new defense cooperation.
Changes in cabinet
- Digital Transformation Minister Mikhailo Fedorov will get the post of first Deputy Prime Minister in the new government.
- The economy, agriculture and environment ministries will be made a single ministry. Its responsibility has been entrusted to Olexy Sobolev.
- The new Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka for relations with organizations such as European and NATO, who was earlier deputy of Swiridenco.
- Olha Stephanishina, who was earlier in this position, will no longer be in the cabinet.
- It is being said that Stephanishina can be made the ambassador of Ukraine in the US.
According to Ukraine’s governance, the President decides the name of the Prime Minister, but the approval of Parliament is necessary. The Prime Minister then proposes the names of his ministers, which also has to get the approval of Parliament. Currently, Jailonsci’s party has a majority in the Ukrainian Parliament, so this process is being completed easily.
