Talking to the media, Trump welcomed to stop the Indian companies’ Russian oil imports. However, he said that he does not fully know about it.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that India’s government refineries have stopped buying oil from Russia. Trump has welcomed these reports and called it a good step.
However, Trump said that he was not sure of the accuracy of these reports. The statement came at a time when the Indian Ministry of External Affairs dismissed reports that India had stopped buying oil from Russia under US pressure.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had said that, “The things that are present in the market and the situation in the world, India takes decisions accordingly.”
In fact, some media reports recently claimed that India’s official oil refineries stopped buying Russian oil last week, as US President Trump has warned India not to buy oil from Moscow.

India does not confirm on purchasing oil from Russia
The US is pressurizing Russia to reduce Russia’s income between the Russia-Ukraine War. India, which is the third largest oil importer in the world, has been a big buyer of cheap Russian oil since Western sanctions on Russia in 2022.
However, recently there were reports that Indian oil companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have stopped purchasing Russian oil, as the discounts are decreasing and there are problems in shipping. The Indian government has not yet officially confirmed this.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said in a press briefing on Friday that India takes decisions according to the things present in the market.

Trump called India a dead economy
On July 30, the Trump administration imposed 25% tariff and additional fine on imports from India. The tariff, implemented from August 7, described India’s buying oil from Russia and old business sanctions as the reason for this.
In addition, Trump strongly criticized the economies of India and Russia as a dead economy this week. He wrote in a social media post, ‘I don’t care what India does with Russia. They drown their dead economy along, I don’t mind. ‘
