Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has come to a minority. The over-ruled rule party announced on Wednesday that it was withdrawing support from the government. A day earlier, United Torah Judaisom (UTJ) announced separation from this government.

Israeli’s 120-seat Parliament (Net-Dancing House requires a majority of 61 seats to form a government. The separation of these two parties has only 50 seats left with the ruling coalition, so the Netanyahu government may come in a minority.

The government said on the issue of leaving the party alliance- with a heavy heart we have to accept that we cannot be a part of the government. However, we will not try to destabilize this government and can support the alliance on some laws.

Dispute from exemption from compulsory military service

The main reason for the dispute is the exemption to orthodox religious students from military service. These students have been taking exemption from mandatory military service for a long time. The Netanyahu government recently brought a bill to limit this exemption, due to which the rule party and the UTJ decided to separate from the government.

Both parties say that their religious lifestyle will be threatened by the admission of religious students. However, many other Jewish Israeli consider it a special feature and express displeasure over it.

Orthodox community accused of withdrawing from war

Experts say that this coalition dispute will not immediately demolish the Netanyahu government. However, it will bring more instability in Israel’s politics, especially when the ceasefire in Gaza and the leaders are colliding with the ongoing struggle in Lebanon and Syria.
