Venkat last called me on 30 June. He worked in a cement factory in Mali, West Africa. He told that his company has stopped him from going out, as the terrorists have attacked there.
He said- We received a call from the company that he was in police custody. After this, it has been claimed in the news that al-Qaeda has kidnapped some people. We called the company, and confirmed. He refused to tell us this to the government and said that terrorists are asking for ransom in exchange for people.
Venkataraman’s brother -in -law has appealed to the Government of India to bring Venkataraman back home. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the kidnapping of Indian workers in Mali.
At the same time, the officials of the West African country have been urged to ensure their safe and early release. In fact, on July 1, the Cement Factory of Mali was attacked by terrorists and kidnapped 3 Indians.
