A case of a maab lynching has come to light in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Where, a Hindu junk merchant was beaten to death by a mob.

On July 9, the attackers beat businessman Lal Chand Sohag (39) with bricks and stones near Mitford Hospital on 9 July.

The crowd removed the businessman’s clothes and some attackers were seen jumping on their bodies. According to media reports, the reason for the violence is being forced to recover and business dispute. However, the real motive behind the incident has not been revealed yet.

After the incident, heavy protests have started across the country. Advocate Yunus Ali Akand filed a writ petition in the High Court on Sunday demanding the formation of a high level committee to investigate the murder.

19 accused have been named in the case, and 15–20 unknowns are also included. The police have arrested five people so far. The case will be heard on Monday.

Sister lodged a complaint

Lal Chand’s sister Manjuara Begum (42) lodged a complaint of murder at the police station on Thursday regarding the incident.

Demonstration in universities demanding punishment for culprits

After the incident, protests took place in several universities and some districts last night demanding strict punishment for the culprits of the murder.

In the rallies, the student accused BNP of failing to control his leaders and workers.

Student Federation President Caikat Arif said, “After Hasina’s withdrawal from power, BNP leaders are fighting for control, causing murders. BNP feels that the expulsion is enough, but we demand that the culprits be prosecuted.”

Hindu leader was beaten to death in April

A big Hindu leader was killed by unknown people on April 19, 2025 in Bangladesh. According to media reports, Bhabesh Chandra Roy (58) was kidnapped and beaten to death.

He was the vice -president of the Biral unit of Bangladesh Puja Udapan Parishad. He had a big hold in the Hindu community. Police said that they were residents of Basudevpur village in Dinajpur, 330 km from Dhaka.

Riding on two bikes, four people came to Bhabesh’s house and forced them to take them away. According to eyewitnesses, he was taken to a nearby Narabari village and brutally beaten there.

On the same evening, the attackers sent Bhabesh to his house in unconscious condition. He was first taken to the nearest hospital, then sent to Dinajpur Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.

On August 5, 2024, Sheikh Hasina government was counted after a long student movement in Bangladesh. Hasina had to leave the country and flee. With this, the situation in Bangladesh worsened. The police became underground overnight. Law and order collapsed.

According to the report of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, 32 Hindus lost their lives in communal violence here. 13 cases of rape and harassment from women were reported. About 133 temples were attacked. These incidents took place between 4 August 2024 to 31 December 2024.
