4.5 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, not news of loss; Earth shook for the third time in 8 days
A 4.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Myanmar on Friday morning. According to the National Center for Sisamology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 101 km. This shock was felt in Naaypedo and the surrounding areas.
This is the third earthquake in Myanmar in the last 8 days. Earlier on July 7, 4.6 intensity was recorded and 4.1 magnitude on 3 July. The 3 July earthquake was at just 10 km deep, which makes it more dangerous.
Earlier on March 28, there were powerful earthquakes of 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude. More than 3500 people died of them.
After these earthquakes, WHO warned that millions of displaced in earthquake affected areas were at risk of TB, HIV, and waterborne diseases.
Myanmar is considered to be an earthquake sensitive area due to the sagiing fault. Its most affected areas are Sagiing, Mandle, Bago and Yangon, where 46% of the country’s population lives.
