Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is going to China next week. Its date will be told soon. Meanwhile, according to Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post, Albanese may demand the withdrawal of Darwin Port from China.
The Northern Territory State of Australia gave this port lease to a Chinese company Landbridge Group in 2015. Then this state was struggling with economic problems. However, this decision of the state government was opposed all over the country.
During the election campaign this year, Albanese promised that he would try to buy Darwin Port back for national security. Then the Chinese ambassador had objected to this and said that there was no mistake of the Chinese company in it. He should not be punished for loss of change in international condition.

America’s problem increased on selling port In 2015, when the agreement was reached between Northern Territory and the Chinese Company regarding the port, the US started deploying its troops at this port. The US also expressed concern about this deal and said that China could use this port for espionage of Australia and the US Army stationed there.
However, the Government of Australia had assured the US that the current monitoring and rules of the port are sufficient and there is no threat to security. Anthony Albanese was then in opposition. He opposed this lease and said that this threatens the security of the country.
Obama reprimanded PM Turnbull
The Landbridge Nedarwin port had a bid of over 50 crore Australian dollars for lease and beaten the remaining 32 companies seeking to buy this port. After this deal, the then US President Barack Obama reprimanded the then PM Malcolm Turnbull of Australia.
Obama had clearly stated that America should first tell about such deals in future. Then he had said that there is no danger of any kind from this deal. If needed, Australia’s Ministry of Defense or Government can take this port under control.

Darwin Port is one of the 20 important ports of Australia. American marine soldiers are deployed here.
After becoming PM, Albanese conducted an inquiry
After becoming Prime Minister 3 years ago, Albanese also investigated whether this deal could threaten Australia’s security? However, the investigation report then said that there is no threat to the security of the country.
In the South China Morning Post report, expert Michael Feller said that PM Albanese would like to ensure that if the control of the Chinese company has to be removed from Darwin Port, it should have the least impact on Australia-China relationships and trade.
At the same time, Professor of Law Jhou Vehuan said that any action in the name of national security should be based on strong evidence and not only on doubt. China bought 129 ports worldwide
Council on Foreign Relations figures show that China has invested in 129 ports worldwide and has its presence on almost every continent. Nevertheless, despite the disputes between the two countries, the journey shows that the intent is to continue the conversation.
According to the Department of Commerce, China was Australia’s largest trading partner in 2024, a trade of Rs 17.16 lakh crore between the two countries. According to the data, Australia asks for one-third of its needs from China.
