Former South Korean President Un Unuke Yolk is not cooperating in the investigation of serious allegations against himself. News agency AFP Government lawyers said that when they reached the former President in the jail’s cell on Friday, they lay down on the floor wearing underwear.

President Yu had imposed martial law in the country on the night of 3 December. However, after heavy protests, he withdrew his decision within 6 hours. After this, he was removed from the post by impeachment.

Lawyer said- Former President living in 40 degree temperature

According to the lawyers, Yun was wearing a top without sleeve and a jail underwear at that time. However, he has warned that next time he needs to be forcibly brought.

Yu’s legal team has responded to this entire incident. His lawyer Yu Jicong-Hwa said that the briefing given by government lawyers in front of the press was derogatory. He said that making public comment on a captive clothes is against humanity, especially when he is lodged in a hot jail with 40 degrees temperatures.

Yun’s lawyers say that the health of the former President is not well. He has many diseases, which are hindering cooperation in the investigation.

South Korea’s Justice Minister Jung Sung-Ho described this entire incident as shameful. He said in Parliament that the former President should not have treated such. The minister said that Yu deliberately landed the jail uniform and when the investigation team left, wore it again.

Although the government has assured that he will be treated respectfully as a former President of Yu, but the law will be equally applicable to all.

Significantly, former President Yu Suk Yolk is accused of attempting to implement martial law in the country. He had planned to send the army to Parliament so that MPs could not vote against them.

Yun’s move pushed South Korea into serious political crisis. There have been many serious allegations against him such as rebellion, misuse of power and disturbances in elections.

Although he was detained in mid -January 2025, he has been refusing to attend the court and prosecution interrogation several times. Due to this, an arrest warrant was issued against him.

Former presidents are closed in detention center

Former President Yu Suk Yolk has been detained since January 2025. His first attempt to arrest was made on 3 January 2025, when he faced serious allegations like conspiracy to implement martial law and disturbances in elections.

Due to security reasons, the arrest could not be made at that time. After this, on January 15, Un herself arrested himself and was sent to the Seoul Detention Center.

After spending about 52 days in jail, on 8 March 2025, the court canceled his custody and was released on bail.

However, the investigation in the case continued and on 10 July 2025, government lawyers issued another arrest warrant against him. He was then detained again and is again closed at the Seoul Detention Center.
