The Colombia government has made two people who have worked in former porn films as Deputy Ministers. President Gustavo Petro has given responsibility to Alejandra Umana and Juan Carlos Florian in the Ministry of Equality.
Umana and Florians will now handle the department that works to provide government help and schemes to the weaker sections of the society. However, Vice President Francia Markage has expressed displeasure over this.
Vice President Markage said that this is tarnishing the image of the government. Apart from this, these appointments can damage the image and purpose of the ministry. However, the President has defended the decision to appoint former porn stars.
Gustavo Petro became the President of Colombia in the year 2022. He is the first leftist President of the country.
The Ministry of Equality is a new ministry which was created by President Petro in the year 2022. Its purpose is to help the people standing on the weak and marginalized of the society. Such as women, black people, LGBTQ+ community, poor and tribals.
Initially, the responsibility of this ministry was given to Vice President Francia Markage, as he himself is a black, woman and social worker. But he resigned in February 2025.
After this, President Petro made Carlos Rosaro the new minister. It is Rosero who has given Umana and Florian the responsibility of important positions in the ministry. Both these people have been the first sex worker, but now they are associated with social work and raise the voice of equality.
Leaving journalism and joining the porn industry
Alejandra Umana was doing journalism before entering the porn industry.
Alejandra Umana is also known from Amanta Hank. He started his career as a journalist. She started working in local newspapers and media after studying journalism from a university in Columbia. During this time he also wrote a book.
In 2017, Umana left journalism and started working in the porn industry. She told that she wanted to understand this world and the decision to work in it was her own. She also shot in Europe and became quite famous on social media.
Two years later in 2019, Umana left the porn industry. He said that people working in this profession do not get respect in the society and have to face a lot of discrimination. After this she started writing, started speaking in favor of sex workers and started working for sexual freedom, equality and women’s rights.
Now Umana sees herself as a social worker and writer. She advocates the rights of sex workers and LGBTQ+ community.
Floorians associated with porn industry to run expenses
Juan Carlos Florian entered politics in April 2025.
When President Petro was the mayor of Bogota, Florian was associated with his team Bogota Humana. During this time he used to see LGBT cases. LGBT issues are considered a very sensitive issue in orthodox countries like Colombia.
After this, he started getting threats of life. Due to which he moved to Paris. He did separate work to make his living while staying there, such as care of children, work in the kitchen. He later joined porn films. Floorians returned to the country after Gustavo Petro became President in 2022.
