In Australia, children under 16 years of age will not be able to create an account on YouTube from 10 December. However, they will be able to use YouTube i.e. watching videos on YouTube.
In November last year, the Australian Parliament passed the law that children under 16 years of age would not be able to create an account on social media platforms.
It included platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, Ticketkock and X. YouTube was then exempted from this law.
Australia’s Communications Minister Anika Wales made this announcement on Wednesday issuing rules related to this law.
No ban on gaming and messaging apps It will be the responsibility of social media platforms that children of this age cannot create an account on the platform. Failure to do so may impose a fine of up to 5 crore Australian dollars, ie about 282.34 crore rupees.
However, platform users will not have to upload documents like passport and driving license to prove their age. Online gaming, messaging, education and health apps are excluded from this ban. They have been considered less harmful for children.
