France will soon recognize Palestine as an independent nation. President Emmanuel Macron announced it on Thursday.
He said that he would formally declare this recognition during the United Nations General Assembly in September. Macron wrote on social media platform x,

“I have taken this decision as part of France’s commitment towards permanent peace in the Middle East. Peace is possible. Today it is most important that the war in Gaza stops and the lives of citizens are saved.
The Palestinian Authority has expressed happiness over France’s decision, while Israel has opposed it.

France’s decision is considered a major diplomatic step amid the growing humanitarian crisis and starvation in Gaza.
Israel said- rewarding terrorism
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the decision. They said,

This decision is like rewarding terrorism and it will give birth to another Iranian -backed proxy like Gaza. In such a situation, a Palestinian nation will not be used peacefully with Israel, but to erase it.
The Palestinian Authority has welcomed France’s move. President Mahmood Abbas was handed over a formal letter on Thursday. PLO Vice President Hussain al-Shaikh said,

We appreciate this decision of Macron, which reflects France’s commitment to international law and Palestinian public rights.
More than 140 countries have given recognition so far
France is the largest western country of official recognition to Palestine. So far, more than 140 countries have recognized Palestine as an independent nation. These include many European countries.
Palestinians are demanding an independent state. It includes the area of West Bank, Eastern Jerusalem and Gaza Strip. These were captured by Israel during the Middle East War of 1967.
Israel has declared East Jerusalem as part of its capital and has settled over 5 lakh Jewish settlements in West Bank.
France will hold an emergency meeting with Britain and Germany
French President Emmanuel Macron is about to meet the situation of Gaza with the leaders of Britain and Germany on Friday, helping people suffering from hunger and preventing war.
Britain’s Prime Minister Kir Stmper said,

The status of the state is the birthright of the Palestinian people. The ceasefire will take us towards the recognition of a Palestinian nation and two-nation solutions, guarantees peace and safety for both Israel and Palestine.
