Reza Amiri Mogadam became the new Ambassador of Iran on 12 April 2023.
The US investigating agency FBI on Tuesday included Iran’s diplomatic Reza Amiri Mogadam in its most wanted list. Mogadam is currently the ambassador of Iran in Pakistan.
Mogadam is alleged to have played an important role in planning and hiding the kidnapping of Robert Lewinson, a retired American FBI agent in 2007.
Lewinson reached Kish Island in Iran on 8 March 2007 and suddenly disappeared the next day. So far, no strong information has been received.

FBI believes that Mogadam monitored the entire operation in which Robert Lewinson was abducted. Later he also worked to hide the truth of this whole matter.
Reza Mogadam, also known as Ahmed Amirinia, was earlier a senior officer in Iran’s intelligence ministry (MoIS). Under his supervision, Iran’s secret agents used to work in Europe.
FBI said that they are still finding out who and how Lewinson was abducted.
FBI released posters against 3 Iranian officials
On Tuesday, FBI released posters against 2 more senior Iranian intelligence officials besides Mogadam. The remaining 2 Iranian intelligence officers include Tagi Daneshwar (Syed Tagi Ghami) and Ghulamhusain Mohammadia.
These people are not only accused of being involved in Lewinson’s kidnapping, but they are also considered an important role in trying to hide the role of Iran government in this entire case.
Tagi Daneshwar is currently a counter-intelligence officer in Iran’s intelligence ministry. He is accused of monitoring an operative Mohammad Baseri (also called ‘Saini’) during Lewinson’s disappearance.
At the same time, Ghulamhusain has been the Senior Deputy Chief of MoIS MoIS. He was an ambassador of Iran in Albania in 2016. He was thrown out of the country by Albania in 2018. Mohammadaniya was accused of plotting terrorist attacks in Albania.
The FBI alleges that Mohammadaniya tried to put Lewinson’s disappearance on a terrorist organization active in the Balochistan region of Pakistan.
Lewinson was last seen in 2011
FBI officer Steven Jenson said that these three officers were part of the plan in which Lewinson was abducted and then the case was hidden. FBI believes that Lewinson was kept captive and perhaps he died in captivity.
Some pictures and a video of Lewinson were revealed in 2010 and 2011, in which he looked alive. But since then no information was received.
In March 2025, the US Finance Department banned several people, including Mogadam, on the matter.
