- 6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Samoa in South Pacific Ocean, No Reports of Loss of Life or Property

The earthquake was felt on Friday near Samoa Island in the South Pacific Ocean. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the intensity of the earthquake was 6.6.
The earthquake occurred about 440 km southwest of Samoa’s capital Apia. Its depth was 314 km (195 mi). However, there is no immediate information about any kind of damage or injuries.
An employee of the Samoa Observer News website said that he did not feel the shocks nor has any loss.
The US tsunami warning system has not issued any tsunami warning after the earthquake. Samoa falls in the ‘Ring of Fire’ area. There are often earthquakes and volcanic explosions.
In 2009, two major earthquakes occurred between Samoa and American Samoa, killing at least 192 people in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.
